Welcome To Our Class!
Dear Parents and Talmidot,
Welcome to the sixth grade and to the start of an exciting school year! My name is Morah Maksumova and I will be your child’s Judaic studies teacher this year. Successful education is the result of a joint effort between teachers and parents. Your support is of utmost importance. I look forward to a wonderful year together filled with learning and growth.
The school day begins at 8:15am. The students will report straight to the classroom upon arrival. Breakfast can be eaten until 8:45am. Class begins 8:50am promptly. If your child is absent they should call a friend and find out from their friend what they missed that day so they will not fall back behind in their studies. When your child returns back to school please kindly send in a note explaining the reason for their absence.
School uniform MUST be worn on a daily basis. Besides the fact that this is a school rule, we are also young ladies who are approaching our bat mitzvah and the age of mitzvah observance. In sixth grade the uniform is the school polo shirt and a black or blue skirt past the knees. Socks or tights are to be worn everyday and closed front and back shoes (sneakers, flats etc). No makeup or nail polish.
All students are required to purchase supplies for the year, please see the attached supply list. All supplies should have your child’s name and will be due in school by Monday, September 11th.
Homework is essential to your child’s success. It will be given either in the form of written work or a quiz on the day’s material. We will also be having the “homework hotline” where your child will have to read in Hebrew for homework nightly through a phone system which will be discussed. When the homework is not read at home, the following day it will have to be written instead I school during breakfast/ recess. I will check their notes periodically to make sure that notes are being taken so that when it comes to the test every student will have what to study from. A grade will be given on the organization and completeness of the notes.
This year in Chumash we will be with G-d’s help learning Parshiot Mikeitz, Vayigash and Veyechi; finishing up sefer Bereishit! We will be learning Ivrit from workbooks and have weekly vocabulary words. We will be learning Parashat hashavua every week. Throughout the year we will be learning about the Jewish holidays and different basic knowledge of Judaism. This year we will have the privilege of studying Sefer Yehoshua and a special Bat Mitzva curriculum which will help the girls learn more about the mitzvoth and why we do them since understanding is so important to true connection with Hashem! One of the main things we will focus on will be our interpersonal relationships and how to deal with those around us with kindness and in a mature fashion. This will we our stepping stones into junior high school and beyond!
If you have any concerns or would like to share anything with me please feel free to contact me by email at [email protected] or leave a message through the school and I will return your call as soon as possible. Your child’s success is very important to us all. I look forward to a very happy and successful year, where your daughter will have many positive learning experiences. I hope that the happy and nurturing environment that we strive to create in our classroom will help your daughter blossom academically and socially. With the help of Hashem I wish all of us a year of success, growth and fulfillment. Shana Tova Umetuka! A Happy and Healthy year to you and your family!
Wishing you only the best,
Morah Maksumova

Classroom Regulations
Sixth grade is the bridge between elementary school and entering Junior High school in seventh grade. You are very close to the age of being young ladies and no longer considered children anymore. Therefore most of the rules of proper etiquette are expected of you without any mention. However just to refresh your memories I will list below a few rules that will be enforced from the first day of school until the very last day bz”H. If for any reason the rules won’t be followed, the name of the girl will be moved down on our behavior chart. For those girls behaving well their names will be moved upwards. In the end of the day any girl whose name is located on the top 2 boxes will receive 1 or 2 checks on their rewards chart depending on their location. When the class as a whole is acting beautifully they will receive a check on the class chart and at the end of 50 checks receive a party !!
1) When we eat breakfast we sit in our seats until we are fully finished and only then get up to throw out the bowl . No standing up while there is a bowl with milk and cereal on your desk please.
2) When I turn off the light that means class is starting. All desks have to be cleaned and should only have a siddur on them. All other supplies such as a binder and workbooks should be kept under the desk.
3) Uniforms are to be worn every day.
4) There is no getting up in the middle of class to throw anything into the garbage or to get any supplies, only during breakfast or recess. Please sharpen all pencils during breakfast or recess as well.
5) Calling out or talking to anyone in the middle of class is not allowed. Please do not do so. I would love to hear what you have to say when your hand is raised.
6) If you need the bathroom raise up 3 fingers and depending on what the class is doing at that time I will decide if you can come out. Bathroom time is during breakfast, recess and lunch unless it is an emergency.
7) Recess is for 15 minutes in the classroom. If you need to leave the room I have to give you permission so please make sure to ask!
8) Homework will be given during the week and throughout the week there will be quizzes and tests. You will be notified about the quizzes and tests ahead of time.
9) Homework is essential to a child’s growth and development so please make sure that it is being completed. Incomplete homework will have to be completed during breakfast/ recess the next day. If this continues a meeting will have to be set up with the parents.
Thank you so much in advance for your cooperation! I am looking forward to a year of growth and development with your child.
